A Record Month for Adoptions at the Washington Animal Rescue League!
As Adoptions Manager, receiving stories and photos from the kind people who have adopted pets from the Washington Animal Rescue League is one of my favorite parts of the job. Here is an example, a message from a family that recently adopted a cat from our shelter:
“We have had such a great homecoming day! We expected that she might
need a few days to get used to us, but she already seems so happy. She
has been exploring and purring and has taken turns cuddling with each
of us. We appreciate all the help you gave to this sweet cat and are so glad
she is ours!”
The League’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home animals that have nowhere else to go, and so emails like this – the pictures and stories that adopters share with us – each represent a success story. By our criteria, last month was especially successful because we re-homed 241 animals – the best monthly adoption total in League history! You may remember my last blog post, announcing our 2nd Annual Adopt-a-thon, and it too was a tremendous success, evidenced by the 81 dogs and cats who left our shelter for new homes in a single day.
I am so proud of my staff and everyone at the League. The people I work with work long hours and make personal sacrifices every week in their efforts to make sure that every dog and cat finds a loving home. I am constantly amazed by the dedication and compassion of my colleagues.
Unfortunately, there is never a shortage of homeless animals, so while finding homes for 241 animals in one month is noteworthy, it does not mean that we have time to take a break. But it does mean that we can continue our mission in full force and save even more lives than we did the year before. Our dog dens and cat condos are already full with new animals waiting for their forever homes. Please consider adoption and stop by the Washington Animal Rescue League today!\
